Airline Industry Information - Travel Guard receives calls from air travellers stranded due to storms

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2007 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

AIG Travel Guard, a US provider of travel insurance and assistance plans, has said that as airports have been reporting closures or long delays due to winter storms, the company has been contacted by thousands of stranded travellers trying to depart from or return to the affected regions.

Travel Guard said that its LiveTravel assistance centre has received more than double the normal volume of calls from travellers needing help to re-book cancelled flights and make alternative hotel reservations.

Dan McGinnity, AIG Travel Guard vice president, said the delays and airport closures have stranded travellers at airports throughout the country because major hubs like Chicago's O'Hare and Washington's Dulles and Reagan National have been affected. He also said that most clients have now been re-booked on alternative flights.

Travel Guard anticipates a significant number of calls from customers filing trip delay and cancellation claims next week.
