Internet Business News - EnCirca announces 3m .travel domain names released for registration

EnCirca, a domain name registrar, has announced that 3m .travel destinations have been released for immediate registration.

Until now, the registration of .travel domain names representing tourist destinations was restricted to governments and tourism boards but now these restrictions have been relaxed and .travel domain names can be registered on a first-come, first-served basis to travel-related companies who can demonstrate valid use of their desired travel destination, said the president of EnCirca.

The released .travel domain names are said to include cities; towns; heritage, iconic and sacred sites; national parks and other landmarks. About 10% of the newly released .travel domain names have been identified as 'Iconic Place Names' and will be subject to a conditional release process, pending a 30-day public comment period conducted by The Travel Partnership Corporation, the advisory council for the .travel domain, the company claims.
